The original idea for this design came from the comforting feeling of wrapping pillows while sleeping. By utilizing a combination of cloth, cotton, and leather treatment, Jingwen Zhang has created a wearable "pillow" that provides a soft and comfortable surface for individuals to find solace in.

The Comfort Bag as Coat was designed and completed within a four-week timeframe in March 2016. During the design process, extensive research was conducted on various types of pillows and their functions. Additionally, techniques for combining different materials such as leather, fabric, cotton, and acrylic were explored to achieve a seamless fusion.

One of the main challenges faced during the design process was finding effective methods to transform the jacket into a backpack and a shoulder bag. Additionally, the fashion pattern making technique posed a challenge for the accessory designer. Attention to detail in terms of edge treatment and pocket placement was crucial to the overall design.

Jingwen Zhang's Comfort Bag as Coat is a testament to her creative vision and technical skills. By incorporating elements of art, science, design, and technology, this design has been awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Fashion and Travel Accessories category in 2018.
